When Should Investors Use Arbitration for Broker Disputes?

When should I consider arbitration for my investment-related disputes?

Investors may consider arbitration in the following cases:
  1. The dispute involves a monetary claim, such as unauthorized trades, settlement differences, or contractual issues with a broker or intermediary.
  2. The grievance has been raised with the intermediary or through SCORES but remains unresolved or unsatisfactorily resolved.
  3. A formal, binding, and enforceable resolution is required.
  4. The dispute falls under the arbitration rules of the stock exchange or depository.
  5. The investor prefers a timely and cost-effective alternative to civil litigation.
Note: Arbitration is limited to monetary claims. Regulatory violations or fraud should be reported directly to SEBI. Investors should retain all relevant documents and correspondence for filing the arbitration claim.
